This is Chilula the chihuahua, the newest member of the Ford family. Now that I have your attention, we have adopted this little dog. I have always said I wanted a "rat dog" and to name it Chilula (Thanks Roger) and Coy always chuckled until he saw the movie Transformers. In it is a "little rat dog" named Mojo. That is when I think he started to soften. I also became a bit concerned about us when Coy traveled and thought a dog would help. So Chilula is our watch dog (don't laugh) Chihuahuas are very good watch dogs. She will warn us, not protect us. Also they are small enough to go with you where ever, they don't stink or shed. Coy thinks she will make a great boat dog so I hope she can swim.
Anyway, she was found stray in Umatilla and brought to a rescue. She was healthy but skinny. She is about 2 years old and weighs 10 pounds. We are her 3rd owners from the rescue. Yes we are her third attempt at a home. The first was an older couple and Chilula became very attached to the wife and aggressive toward the husband who was never home. They were not willing to work with her and brought her back. The second couple took her home and put her in a crate all day while they worked. She has separation anxiety?? She got out of her crate and made a mess and that was the end of that home. Then there is us. We have had dogs with separation anxiety and we are always home so hopefully the third time is a charm.
We picked her up yesterday and unfortunately her welcome into our home was ???? The introduction was good and the ride home was fine but when we got home, the kids left the door open and out she went not knowing her name (who knows how many she has had) or where her home was. So it was a frantic search, three kids crying and praying loudly at home, a Mommy running and a Daddy driving. It all ended well and we all learned a valuable lesson "shut the door". We also figured out after this adventure that she is part Jack Russell and can run like the wind.
She is eating and sleeping and Coy and I have really balanced our time with her. She is not too crazy about the kids and barks at them like strangers. They take turns walking her, feeding her and holding her in the car so that should change soon. We are all home for a 4 day weekend so she should figure out that the 5 of us lived here first.
She is very cute and we are committed so wish us well. We have two weeks to be able to return her to the shelter and get our money back lets hope it does not come to that. We are off to a good start.
Walker and I went Kennedy Space Center on Thursday for a field trip with his class. It was fun but too short. We went on the new Space Shuttle Experience which is very cool. Our tickets indicated you could return within 7 days for free. So both boys returned with Papa Terry on Sunday and spent the whole day. They got to see everything. They saw the Space Shuttle on the Launch Pad waiting and preparing for the February 12th launch and of course they did the Space Shuttle Experience again. They had a great day.
